The Trencor 60 Series features Cat®-type undercarriages
for reduced maintenance, and fast 2-speed drive motors for optimum travel
speeds. The digging booms can be sectionalized for easy dimension changes,
and many of the models can accommodate either a rocksaw or Roadminer®
attachment.
The 665HD through 1860HD models have an exclusive mechanical
powertrain. This technologically advanced approach has proven superior
to the less powerful hydrostatic or competitive mechanical systems for
hard rock applications. The Trencor Mechanical Powertrain® features
a multi-speed powershift transmission with torque converter, heavy-duty
differential, and fully enclosed chain final drive, all of which combine
for a multiplication of torque output. With this arrangement, higher torque
is available at lower chain speeds. Low chain speed operation allows better
penetration, reducing tooth cost and machine wear.
There are two types of power trains currently in use
with chain trenchers. In recent years, the hydrostatic drive has been
perhaps the most common method of delivering power to moving parts. But
the hydrostatic drive does have some short comings, including power lost
due to heat, inherent inefficiencies with hydraulic pumps and motors,
system complexity, high maintenance cost, and a short band of digging
speeds. The mechanical drive, on the other hand, offers a range of positive
benefits.
Increased torque- More than 90% of the engine horsepower
can be delivered to the cutting tool.
Increased productivity- The cutting tool tends to break out more and larger
pieces of material thanks to the slow-moving digging tooth and the force
delivered by the high torque.
Broader range of chain speeds- There is a transmission in the Trencor
mechanical drive that lets the operator choose a digging speed that matches
the digging conditions.
Reduced fuel cost- The additional horsepower delivered by the system gets
more work done in the same amount of time.
Ease of repair- The system is much less complex. In most cases, a simple
visual inspection can lead to the diagnosis of a problem.
Lower repair cost- The components of the system are mostly off-the-shelf
parts that can be replaced at a relatively low cost. There are also fewer
moving parts to wear out or break.
Long machine life- A mechanical drive system can better absorb the pounding
shocks of trenching operations. The average life of a Trencor mechanical
power train trencher is quite long-which permits amortization of the machine
over a longer period of time. More than 90% of the engine horsepower can
be delivered to the cutting tool.

Trencor T1060
Mechanical Drive Chain Trencher
The Trencor T1060 offers powerful trenching ability in a compact
package. The first of two new Trencor models to be released this
summer, the T1060 features a newly styled sloped hood, extraordinary
performance, and the latest technology throughout its innovative
design. The C-9 Tier 3 Stage IIIA Caterpillar 350-horsepower engine
meets all emission standards and transmits power to the digging
chain through a proven 3-speed Allison transmission, which allows
maximum torque in each trenching speed.
Like all Trencor models, the T1060 boasts the rugged frame construction
for which Trencor is known—its unibody tractor frame is stronger
than tube and bolt-on sheet metal designs. Extra-long, welded, heavy-duty
undercarriage sits within an 8-foot, 5-inch overall width to work
in tight job conditions. Narrow profile allows transportation without
oversize permits.

Trencor Roadminers
While planers and profilers can only cut 8 to 15 inches
deep, the Trencor Roadminer® can cut up to 16 feet wide and 6 feet
deep in a single pass.
A Roadminer® eliminates blasting in most cases. The cut is clean,
even, and ready for further construction.
Uses include certain quarry operations, road construction,
building foundation work, and mass rock removal. A Roadminer® cuts
wider than its tracks, therefore making multiple passes possible, which
produces a vertical wall.
